Naturalization is an important milestone in the path toward U.S. citizenship. The decision to apply for citizenship is a very personal one. The Department of Homeland Security extended the re-registration periods for the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designations of El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua and Sudan.

The re-registration period under the TPS designation of:

  • El Salvador is currently open and runs through March 9, 2025;

  • Haiti is currently open and runs through Aug. 3, 2024;

  • Honduras is currently open and runs  through July 5, 2025;

  • Nepal is currently open and runs through June 24, 2025;

  • Nicaragua is currently open and runs through July 5, 2025; and

  • Sudan is currently open and runs through April 19, 2025.

Green Card Processes and Procedures

Each Green Card category have specific steps and procedures to follow. Listed below are some general processes and procedures to help you apply either while in the United States (known as “adjustment of status”) or while outside the United States (known as “consular processing”).

 You are likely eligible to apply for an employment authorization document (EAD) to legally work in the United States if:

  • You were recently paroled into the United States and that parole remains valid; or

  • You have applied for asylum and that application has been pending for at least 150 days.
